Ascend Federal Credit Union Donates $20,000 To American Red Cross Chapters In Middle Tennessee

Ascend Federal Credit Union, the largest credit union in Middle Tennessee, announced a $20,000 donation to the American Red Cross, split evenly between the Heart of Tennessee Chapter and the Nashville Area Chapter. These contributions supported the Heart of Tennessee Chapter’s 13th annual Heroes Luncheon, which took place on March 13 at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), and the Nashville Area Chapter’s Lifesaver Luncheon, which will be held on April 8 at the Curb Event Center at Belmont University.

The Heroes Luncheon recognized and celebrated the selfless service of individuals in the community who embody the mission of the Red Cross. This year’s Heart of Tennessee event honored Dr. Gloria Bonner, who dedicated 44 years to education, including 32 years at MTSU, and has volunteered extensively with local non-profits. In fiscal year 2024, the Heart of Tennessee Chapter assisted 528 people following a disaster, installed 344 free smoke alarms, enrolled 5,515 people in first aid/CPR/AED training and collected 14,833 units of lifesaving blood.

“Ascend is committed to supporting the vital work of the American Red Cross,” said Ascend President and CEO Matt Jernigan. “The Heroes and Lifesaver Luncheons are powerful reminders of the everyday heroes among us. We are proud to support both the Heart of Tennessee and Nashville Area chapters’ events, and we commend the honorees who exemplify the spirit of service and compassion.”

“Ascend has provided long-term, meaningful support to our organization,” said Joel Sullivan, regional CEO for American Red Cross. “Their continued donations are vital in assisting the Red Cross toward our mission to prevent and relieve suffering. With Ascend’s support, we can continue making a lasting difference in the lives of Tennesseans, ensuring that our community is prepared for and resilient in the face of emergencies.”

Ascend has been a longtime supporter of American Red Cross chapters in Tennessee through employee and member fundraising campaigns, blood drives, emergency response donations and event sponsorships. In addition, Ascend Chief Strategy Officer Leslie Copeland serves on the board of directors for the American Red Cross Heart of Tennessee chapter. In total, Ascend has contributed more than $174,500 to local American Red Cross chapters.
