Who doesn’t love Toot’s? On this April evening, the South Church Street Toot’s was packed with diners who had come out to eat “Wings and Rings” and all the other great Toot’s food, and to support the Area 16 Special Olympics. Rutherford County School Resource Officers went from table to table, working their magic, so that the envelopes left on the tables for contributions must have been full.
Several of the athletes for Special Olympics attended the event, along with their parents. According to Director Lou Paschall, their mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
